On retirement and after a diagnosis of emphysema, the support for people in the community with respiratory conditions became Tessa Jelen’s main priority.
She is the Chair of the Westminster Breathe Easy, a British Lung Foundation support group since its launch in 2011, running group meeting, outings and producing quarterly newsletters with support information, with a committed belief in social prescribing. She also sits on multiple patient group committees, including IUC, L&Q Housing, PERC, CLAHRC, CLCH and Health Watch. She is on the advisory panel for European Patient Ambassador Program, ELF COPD advisory panel. Also, as a trained software tutor she is currently an ambassador for Health Help Now, MYCOPD and PKB data applications.
